Redrighthand - They Sang and Chanted for Hours, then the Locked in Hundreds Set Themselves Ablaze.

Is this perhaps the longest album title out there? Probably not. As a matter of fact I just searched for "longest album title" and Fiona Apple took the cake with "When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks Like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'Fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right"  That's a long ass title...I didn't even read it all because I'm not that interested even though it would seem that I was that interested considering I took the time to look it up....but I'm not.

Instead I'm sitting here realizing my misanthropic tendencies aren't going away anytime soon as I repeatedly get pestered with messages to go out and "get drunk" and the only thing I can think of is how I hate people and their "need" to be inebriated on a daily basis, or their "need" for constant social interaction. I decided what better way to take out my anxieties towards mankind than with a completely claustrophobic album that sounds like the writhing ever-present anger slopping murkily around within the deepest crevices of my bowels.

Two paragraphs in and I haven't even touched on the band.

Redrighthand. I first heard of these guys through a friend in Ensorcelor, he described them as "right up your alley," and despite not having a physical alley, it is indeed up my "alley."

Four tracks of (as I said earlier) claustrophobic, chilling and downright anti-joyous nihilistic sludgified doom. "They Sang and Chanted" is fucking heavy, that's it. (no clean singing, thank whatever it is that was sick enough to create us) This was recorded in 2004 and sadly sat stagnant until At War With False Noise picked it up and did it proper in 2011. Of course, they're now defunct (as of 2006) and I blame everyone for that except Canada because they remain neutral and put out an ass-ton of good black metal. (what the hell is an ass-ton anyway?)

I don't really know what it is that sticks out the most to me on this album. It could be the intense middle of the tonal-road shrieking that tickles my fancy, or it could be the amount of slow-as-the-rotation-of-the-earth riffs that permeate my withered framework. Maybe it's just what I needed in my current state of belligerence. Maybe it sucks and is a giant pile of shit like the state of American education. You won't know until you buy the record or decide on your own from my seemingly endless tirade. Make decisions and embrace hate.

  1. As a matter of fact it is. They're from the UK and there are only three countries that don't use the Metric System if I'm not mistaken...US being one...did I mention how horrible US education is?
